Beijing, Sep 12 (IANS) Villages in China will have at least one college graduate each in their management staff by 2015, the China Daily reported Wednesday.
According to guidelines issued by the Communist Party of China Central Committee and several ministries, more college graduates will serve in leading posts in villages and townships in the next three to five years.
China began to send volunteer college graduates to work as village officials in the mid-1990s to help develop the rural regions lagging behind in modernisation.
The daily said the rural jobs have offered college graduates a stable income and opportunities to seek advanced learning or take other government jobs.
Till 2011, more than 210,000 college graduates had served as grassroots village officials, according to the People’s Daily.
It said there would be 400,000 such officials in the country by the end of 2015, and 600,000 by 2020.
