Chandigarh, July 20 (Inditop.com) A local court Monday sentenced to life imprisonment a Delhi-based dentist for the murder of her husband six years ago.

Swapna Sapra was convicted Saturday for the murder of her husband, who headed one of the biggest security agencies in the country.

The sentence was announced by Additional District and Sessions Judge Raj Rahul Garg. The court also slapped a fine of Rs.75,000 on her.

Swapna, a dental surgeon with New Delhi’s Apollo Hospital, used her clinical skills to murder her husband Mandiv Sapra in the five-star Hotel Mount View here in July 2003.

While talking to reporters outside the courtroom, Swapna said: “I am not satisfied with the trial and I would certainly appeal in the High Court.”

A police officer, who investigated the case, said Swapna murdered Sapra, the executive director of Delhi-based private security agency Group-4 Securitas Guarding Ltd, by using surgical scissors to cut his windpipe in the washroom of their hotel suite.

Sapra’s body was found lying in a pool of blood while Swapna was found in an unconscious state in the suite.

She told police that an intruder entered their room at night and assaulted them, killing Sapra.

However, her contradictory statements made the police suspicious about her involvement in the murder.

The couple wed in 2000, it being Swapna’s second marriage and Sapra’s third.

Their relationship was disturbed as Sapra did not want Swapna’s 12-year-old son from her previous marriage to inherit his property worth millions of rupees, the police officer said.

Sapra’s security agency was one of the biggest in India, supplying private security personnel to several private sector clients, including banks.
