Manila, Sep 17 (IANS) Two Chinese nationals in the Philippines have been rescued by police following a kidnapping attempt late Monday, Xinhua reported.

One of the suspects was killed and a policeman was wounded following a gun battle between police and kidnappers in Barobo town, in Mindanao’s Surigao del Sur province, said provincial governor Johnny Pimentel.
The two, engaged in gold mining in Barobo, were snatched in nearby San Francisco town around 3 p.m. “The victims are now with police,” Pimentel said.
