Mumbai, Oct 18 (IANS) A benchmark index of Indian equities markets was trading 141 points higher in afternoon trade Thursday on robust Asian cues.
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 18,653.60 points, was ruling at 18,752.06 points, up 141.29 points or 0.76 percent up from its previous day’s close at 18,610.77 points.
The Sensex touched a high of 18,760.81 points and a low of 18,576.41 points in intra-day trade.
The BSE midcap index was up 64.06 points, while the smallcap index was up 46.28 points.
On the sectoral front, the BSE realty index was up 36.83 points, followed by the banking index, up 204.75 points, and auto index, up 118.12 points.
The wider 50-scrip S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was also up 0.77 percent at Rs.5,703.60 points.
The major Sensex gainers were Tata Power, up 2.75 percent at Rs.106.55; SBI, 2.14 percent at Rs.2,262.10; Tata Motors, up 2 percent at Rs.270.20; Hero MotoCorp, up 1.59 percent at Rs.1,834 and Hindalco Inds, up 1.50 percent at Rs.118.30.
The main losers were Sun Pharma, down 1.55 percent at Rs.701; Bharti Airtel, down 1 percent at Rs.267.45; Wipro, down 0.91 percent at Rs.350; Gail India, 0.34 percent at Rs.370 and Dr Reddys Lab, down 0.11 percent at Rs.1,688.15.
Among other Asian markets, Japan’s Nikkei was up 2 percent while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was trading 0.48 percent higher. Shanghai’s Composite Index was up 1.24 points higher.
