Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 20 (IANS) Veteran hardline Communist and leader of the opposition in Kerala, V.S. Achuthanandan turned 89 Saturday.
Union Defence Minister A.K. Antony was among the numerous callers who met Achuthanandan to wish him a happy birthday. Those who visited personally to wish him included Kerala Assembly Speaker, G. Karthikeyan.
The only function for the day was the traditional Kerala lunch which Achuthanandan had with his family at his official residence here.
And not to loose an opportunity to slam the Chandy government, he told reporters that the Oomen Chandy government is out to spoil the independence and the autonomy of the various universities in the state and is trying to interfere in their day-to-day running.
“Both, the state and central governments are playing a dirty game to see that the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation along with E. Sreedharan is eased out of the proposed Kochi Metro rail project,” said Achuthanandan.
Chandy’s office told IANS that he is travelling and busy with numerous meetings and he will wish Achuthanandan very shortly.
