Gurgaon, Oct 20 (IANS) The residents of a posh colony here Saturday organised a ‘dharna’ (protest rally) at the main office of their builder for not providing basic amenities and were involved in an alteercation ruckus they said was not of their making.
The Southcity – I Resident Welfare Association (SCRWA) organised an hour-long dharna outside the office of the builder, Unitech here. They were protesting against the apathy of their coloniser.
The dharna started as a peaceful sit-in by over 200 residents including large numbers of women. Presided over by the SCRWA president, it was attended by the president of the Gurgaon Citizens Council and a wide array of associations fighting for citizens’ rights in the city.
But the situation soon turned ugly. The protestors claim that it was the builder’s fault.
“Protestors shouting slogan moved towards Unitech House. The builder, instead of coming forward to engage in peaceful talks, locked its office gates and engaged locally-hired goons, bouncers and hired security to attack the residents, a majority of whom were senior citizens and ladies,” claimed SCRWA president Ashok Bhardwaj.
The altercation ended only when police broke up the gathering.
Later, Unitech General Manager, Vikas Jogalekar assured residents that their demands would be met forthwith.
