Panaji, Oct 20 (IANS) A newly-formed casino employees union in Goa alleged Saturday that workers in the state’s casinos were being exploited and that the administration was in cahoots with the casino owners.

“Since there is a nexus between bureaucrats, politicians and the casino owners, no one takes action against illegalities by the casino industry,” said Puti Gaonkar, who heads the Goa Casino and Allied Workers Union.
Addressing a press conference in Panaji, Gaonkar also said that only 30 percent of the 2,500 workers employed by the casino industry in Goa were locals.
Goa has six operational offshore casinos and over a dozen onshore casinos which cater to hundreds of thousands of tourists as well as locals annually.
