Chennai, Dec 1 (IANS) Environment Minister Jayanthi Natarajan Saturday inspected 70 beagles imported from China allegedly by a pharmaceutical lab for experiments, animal rights group PETA said.

A statement from the People for Ethnic Treatment of Animals said the minister went to Chennai airport to inspect the dogs, which it was earlier said would be used as pets.
PETA said it exposed the fraud surrounding the dogs.
“PETA learned that Cathay Pacific Airways, which has a strict policy against transporting animals to laboratories, was misinformed by (a Chinese firm) that the dogs won’t be used or killed in a laboratory.”
