Melbourne, July 24 (Inditop.com) Former Australian speedster Jeff Thomson has blasted the team’s Ashes bowling as “rubbish” and claimed it was a major blunder to leave Stuart Clark on the sidelines for the Lord’s Test.

The former Test firebrand also claimed Australia was “cocky and complacent” after it outplayed England in the drawn first Test in Cardiff.

“It was a major blunder to omit Stuart Clark at Lord’s, and not just because he’s the closest thing we’ve got to another (Glenn) McGrath in terms of the way he bowls,” Thomson was quoted as saying in The Australian.

“Fantastically as Freddie (Andrew) Flintoff bowled, the garbage Ponting’s bowlers served up in the first two sessions was the difference between the sides.

“It’s a long time since I’ve seen an Australian attack spray it around all over the place for so long, without dragging it back, and look so ragged.

“Dennis Lillee and I got a bit carried away against the West Indies in Perth in 1974-75 and copped some flak, but at least we won the series convincingly: these blokes will be lucky to win a wooden spoon unless they pull their fingers out.”
