New Delhi, Dec 29 (IANS) One of the six accused involved in the gang-rape of a young woman Dec 16 in a moving bus has been sent to 12-day judicial custody Saturday.
Akshay Thakur, the last to be arrested, was sent to judicial custody after police didn’t ask for further extension of his custody.
Thakur was presented before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Lokesh Kumar Sharma in a fast track special court Saturday who sent him to a 12-day judicial custody and directed police to present him in court again Jan 9, 2013.The 23-year-old woman was gang-raped in south Delhi while she was returning home with a male friend, who was severely beaten by the accused.
Thakur had been taken into police custody for a day Friday to recover clothes of the rape victim and her friend, her ring, their mobile phones and ATM cards.
Thakur was arrested Dec 21 from Aurangabad in Bihar and underwent a Test Identification Parade (TIP) Dec 26, during which the victim’s male friend identified him as one of the men involved in the incident.
The others arrested are Ram Singh, his brother Mukesh, Vinay Sharma and Pawan Gupta, who are in judicial custody till Jan 6.
A minor arrested in the case has been sent to a juvenile home.
After the death of the woman in Singapore early Saturday, the accused have been also charged with murder.
