Chandigarh, Aug 8 (Inditop.com) A 29-year-old engineer, admitted at a Chandigarh hospital, has tested positive for swine flu, officials said Saturday.
According to health officials, the patient is a Chandigarh resident who works as a production engineer at the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) refinery at Panipat in Haryana. He had gone on an official trip to Canada and returned last month after staying there for a month.
After exhibiting the symptoms of swine flu, he was admitted at Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) here Aug 5.
“The patient has been admitted in an isolated ward of PGIMER. We had sent his throat swab samples to NICD (National Institute of Communicable Disease) in New Delhi and got the confirmation report yesterday (Friday) evening,” H.C. Gera, Chandigarh’s nodal officer for swine flu, told IANS Saturday.
Three family members of the patient have been quarantined at their house in the city’s Sector 15, while health officials in Panipat have been informed and asked to quarantine the people who had come in contact with the patient.
The infected patient has gone to Canada with one of his colleagues, who had tested positive for the disease in New Delhi after their return, and was admitted in a hospital there.
So far, 44 suspected cases of swine flu were reported in Chandigarh hospitals, out of which seven have been found positive for the disease.
