Melbourne, Aug 9 (Inditop.com) An Indian student was killed and six Indians were injured Sunday when a mini bus in which they were travelling veered off a road on the way to the Australian resort town of Mount Buller.

The man who died at the scene was a 22-year-old who was in Australia on an Indian student visa, The Herald Sun quoted investigators as saying. Mount Buller is over 230 km from here.

There were 10 people in the Toyota Hi-Ace when it slid down a steep embankment after a sweeping right turn. The van slammed into a tree.

Among the passengers, three were Australian residents and seven were on Indian student visas.

A man in his 30s was in critical condition after suffering multiple lower body fractures. Another man was also seriously injured.

The seriously injured men were flown to Melbourne hospitals. They were among four people who were trapped for three hours after the crash.

The Indian student who died and the seriously hurt passengers were seated on the passenger side of the van. All the occupants were from Broadmeadows.

The police said the driver was a 27-year-old man, who was not believed to have been seriously injured.
