Lucknow, Aug 12 (Inditop.com) A 25-year-old woman was allegedly burnt to death by her husband and in-laws for giving birth to a baby girl for the second time in Baghpat district of Uttar Pradesh, police said Wednesday.
“Just hours after Momeena delivered a baby girl Tuesday, she was set on fire by her husband, brother-in-law and mother-in-law,” police inspector Somveer Singh told Inditop on phone.
Singh said the three accused ran away with the newborn girl after setting Momeena on fire. Momeena, married for five years, was a resident of the Ahera village in Baghpat, some 350 km from Lucknow.
According to police, a murder case has been registered against the three.
“Efforts are on to trace them. Momeena’s family members fear that the three may have even killed the newborn girl,” said Singh.
Momeena’s family members told police that the accused also killed their first baby girl around two years ago.
The average sex ratio of Uttar Pradesh is 898 females per 1,000 males. However, the ratio in several districts including Hardoi, Shahjahanpur, Badaun and Etah is extremely poor. In these districts, there are less than 850 females per 1,000 males.
