Raipur, Aug 20 (Inditop.com) A college girl in Chhattisgarh was arrested for sending a “threatening” sms to a university vice chancellor and ending the message with the words ‘Lal Salam’ a salutation used by the Maoist insurgents, police said Thursday.

Crime branch officials said the girl, Archana Goswami, was arrested late Wednesday in state’s northern district of Surguja on charges of sending a threatening sms to Laxman Chaturvedi, vice-chancellor of Bilaspur-based Guru Ghasidas University, asking him to pass all the students who have failed in college exams and have recently applied for re-evaluation of papers.

“The girl, who is student of B.Sc second year, enrolled in a college in Surguja district, sent sms on mobile phone of the vice-chancellor Aug 4 using threatening language and ending the message with ‘Lal Salam’ to give the impression that message was sent by a Maoist cadre,” Prabhakar Tiwari, cyber cell crime branch officer, told IANS by phone from Bilaspur.

Police say the girl had confessed during interrogation that she had sent the threatening message to the vice chancellor. Police investigators say the girl had failed in B.Sc exam thrice recently and she had applied for re-evaluation to Guru Ghasidas University.
