Ghaziabad, March 7 (IANS) Police in Ghaziabad Friday busted a gang of highway robbers after a driver complained that his truck was looted Feb 25 from a sugarcane centre at Kakra Bridge in Muradnagar of Uttar Pradesh.
Acting on the complaint, police arrested gang leader Jagat, who during interrogation, confessed to his crime. He revealed he would loot trucks from sugarcane centres located by the highways.
After looting the trucks, he would sell those to Saleem of Rampur for Rs.50,000 and Rs.70,000. Saleem would break down the trucks at scrap traders and sell off the parts.
Following Jagat’s information, police nabbed the other gang members, identified as Kamal, Amit, Sanjay, Dinesh, Ram Prakash, Pappu, Chand Khan, Sameer and Saleem.
Police recovered three motorcycles, four pistols, four live cartridges and eight knives from them. “We are seeking further police remand to recover more articles from them,” said Superintendent of Police (Rural) Jagdish Sharma.
