Berlin, Nov 8 (IANS) Hannover earned their third consecutive victory as they beat Berlin 2-0 at the opener of the 11th round of German Bundesliga Friday.
Clinical Hannover scored two goals against harmless Berlin that suffered their sixth loss of the season to stumble into a crisis. Goals by Hannover’ s Jimmy Briand and Hiroshi Kiyotake were enough to reap a victory on the road, Xinhua reported.
Hannover started from the kick off offensively minded against hosts that failed to get a foothold into the game.
The visitors from Lower Saxony were the better team yet Berlin created the best chance of the first half when Salomon Kalou failed to break the deadlock following a through ball into the box at the 24th minute.
As the match progressed both defences neutralized all offensive actions so that goal-scoring opportunities remained a rare occurrence. However, the visitors shocked the hosts just before the break when Jimmy Briand slotted home a corner from inside the box.
Berlin lacked in penetration and failed to find answer to Hannover’ s lead after the restart. Hannover dictated the pace and got rewarded at the 76th minute when Hiroshi Kiyotake doubled the advantage following a turnover in the midfield.
Berlin never gained a foothold into the game and suffered therefore their sixth loss of the season against clinical visitors. With the defeat Berlin stay on 13th position whereas Hannover jump on 4th place for now.
The following fixtures are scheduled for Saturday: Leverkusen host Mainz, Augsburg face newly promoted Paderborn, Hoffenheim see newly promoted Cologne, Frankfurt encounter front runners Bayern Munich, Freiburg clash Schalke and Stuttgart visit last positioned Bremen.
