German actress DIANE KRUGER quit modelling because she was sick of the way fashion magazines set impossibly high standards of beauty for ordinary women.

The Inglourious Basterds star began her career on the catwalks and covers, but quit to pursue her dream of becoming an actress.

And Kruger admits she quickly became disillusioned with the modelling industry – because the glossy, airbrushed girls in the magazines are not a realistic reflection of female beauty.

She tells Interview magazine, “I’ve got to tell you, the reason I stopped modelling was because I wasn’t pleased with trying to portray something that is impossible to reach.

“Even when I do photoshoots now for films, I’m just not interested in trying to look my best all the time anymore. That pursuit of an impossible perfection seems ridiculous to me now. I’d rather show my vulnerabilities or my doubts than try to be something that no one is.”
