Kolkata/Asansol, Jan 29 (IANS) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Thursday said that besides attracting big ticket investments in the upcountry areas in the state, steps are being taken to boost the small-scale industries.

“We will set up MSME facilitation centres in Durgapur and Burdwan. This will create tremendous employment opportunity for the local youtha, she said during the Industry and Trade Fair in Asansol.
MSME (Micro Small and Medium Enterprise) facilitation centres provides application facilitation services to the entrepreneurs and helps entrepreneurs on various official processes required to function.
Banerjee said the state government will set up a core committee with representatives from industry, business and government officials in Asansol to look into smooth progress of industry, trade and commerce in the district and surrounding areas.
“Investment proposals worth more than Rs.74,000 crore in steel, fertilizers, ceramic tiles, aerotropolis, petrochemicals and coal mines are taking shape in the region including the adjoining areas of Birbhum,” she said.
The government will also set up a Unique Clearance Centre in Burdwan to facilitate speedy disposal of mutation and conversion of land for industrial purposes.
Development of MSMEs has always been atop the agenda of the state’s ruling Trinamool Congress. Banerjee had promised to set-up 17 MSME clusters when she came to power in 2011. The state now has more than 152 clusters.
