Shimla, Sep 10 (Inditop.com) The Chandigarh-Manali National Highway-21 has been closed at various points due to massive landslides in Himachal Pradesh, police said Thursday.
“The Chandigarh-Manali highway has been closed at various places between Bilaspur and Mandi towns since Wednesday night due to landslides triggered by uninterrupted rain in the region for the past two days,” Superintendent of Police Kuldeep Sharma told Inditop.
The highway also remained closed Wednesday for many hours but it was reopened later in the evening.
“Work is on to clear the landslides but massive rain is hampering the road-clearing operation. It (the highway) is likely to be reopened later in the day,” the official said.
The Chandigarh-Manali highway is a crucial link to tribal Lahaul and Spiti districts in Himachal Pradesh and to Leh in Jammu and Kashmir.
