New Delhi, April 9 (IANS) Some 250 BJP activists staged a noisy protest on Thursday outside Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s house demanding the resignation of a Delhi minister for allegedly shielding men wanted in a road rage case.
Holding party flags and banners, some of the protesters, including state BJP president Satish Upadhyay, climbed atop cars and raised slogans against the Delhi government outside Kejriwal’s residence in north Delhi’s Civil Lines.
Upadhyay demanded the resignation of Delhi’s Minority Affairs Minister Asim Ahmed Khan in the Aam Aadmi Party government, saying he was shielding those accused of beating a 38-year-old motorcyclist to death on Sunday.
The victim, Shahnawaz, was assaulted in front of his two sons by the accused after his motorcycle bumped into their car. The man died.
“We want him (minister) to resign because he has been accused of pressurising police to prepare a weak FIR (First Information Report) against the accused,” said Upadhyay.
“The government must ensure that Shahnawaz’s family gets justice,” he added.
Delhi Police, which reports to the home ministry and not to the Delhi government, has arrested all the five accused in the case.
The parents of Shahnawaz, who owned an electrical shop, on Wednesday met Kejriwal who assured them his government’s help to ensure that the dead man’s children do not discontinue their education.
