New Delhi, April 16 (IANS) A 24-year-old woman from Zimbabwe was arrested here for carrying a consignment of 12.5 kg pseudoephedrine — a sympathomimetic drug — valued at Rs.12.5 lakh in the international market, an official said on Thursday.
Moyo Sandra was held by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officials at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) here at around 2.40 a.m. on Wednesday.
“Sandra came to India on a tourist visa and she was supposed to travel from IGI Airport to Johannesburg-via-Abu Dhabi,” CISF spokesperson Hemendra Singh said.
He said the CISF officials found Sandra’s activities suspicious and detained her for a more thorough search.
“She was subjected to thorough checking of her belongings. Her luggage was also passed through X-ray Baggage Inspection System at Terminal-3,” he said.
“Two packets of narcotic substance weighing about 12.5 kilogram and having value of Rs.12.5 lakh in the international market were recovered from her baggage,” said the official.
Sandra was later handed over to the narcotics control bureau officials, he added.
