Kolkata, April 17 (IANS) The Border Security Force on Friday arrested a man for running an illegal unit manufacturing Phensedyl syrup near the Bangladesh border in West Bengal and seized equipment used for manufacturing the drug which is in wide demand in Bangladesh.

“During a special operation, the troopers busted the illegal factory near Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district and apprehended Hassan Kabir Molla, and seized 300 bottles of Phensedyl, bottle polishing and sealing machines, 110 stickers, Phensedyl making powder and liquid,” a BSF officer said.
During the raid, 3.4 kg of marijuana was also seized.
Containing codeine-phosphate, Phensedyl cough syrup is in huge demand in Bangladesh for its sedative properties.
In another operation in Nadia district, BSF troopers seized six gold biscuits worth nearly Rs.19 lakh while they were being smuggled into India from Bangladesh. The smugglers managed to escape.
The BSF across the south Bengal frontier have seized over 32 kg of gold worth nearly Rs.2.50 crore and apprehended 11 smugglers this year.
