New Delhi, April 24 (IANS) Renowned fashion designer Rohit Bal was feted by a luxury Swiss watch brand here for his contribution to domestic and international fashion over the years.

Bal, who has been part of the Indian fashion industry for over two decades, was felicitated by Olivier Bernheim, president of Raymond Weil at the brand’s boutique in central Delhi’s Connaught Place area on Friday.
The 53-year-old Indian designer was honoured with a steel and gold-plated wrist wear ‘Parsifal’ named after Richard Wagner’s final opera: ‘a mystical world of chivalry and spiritual quest’.
Bal, known for his signature lotus motif designs, believes the luxury watch he was presented with was yet another milestone and said he was privileged to be felicitated by the makers of the black leather-strapped timepiece.
“I am honoured to be felicitated by Raymond Weil. I think it’s more important that it is Raymond Weil because the brand has always been associated with fashion. It has always been considered as elegant, chic and fashionable,” Bal told IANS.
Describing the watch he was presented with as “beautiful” and “fabulous”, Bal said: “I am very happy and I am extremely privileged that I have been felicitated by them.”
On facilitating Bal, who launched his debut menswear line in 1990 and since, has ventured into myriad collaborations in products other than clothes, Raymond Weil president Olivier Bernheim said: “We would like to express our appreciation and seize the opportunity to bestow him with sober, yet elegant novelty from Raymond Weil as a mark of appreciation to his contributions so far in the field of fashion in India and globally.”
The theme to the Swiss brand, which unveiled a limited edition product to hail the 100 years of legendary singer Frank Sinatra’s birth, has been music. The collections are named after famed operas such as “Nabucco” and “Parsifal” or musicals “Maestro” or “Jasmine.”
