Paris, April 28 (IANS) The president of French football club Paris Saint-Germain, Nasser al-Khelaifi, underlined on Tuesday that Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani would not be leaving the club next season.
The Qatari official’s remarks came in an interview with French newspaper Le Parisien, where he added that he had no plans to meet Cavani, or to even look at a bid by Manchester United to sign the player, reports Efe.
The same publication published comments on Monday made by a source close to the Uruguayan that Cavani would not likely stay with PSG for another year unless he got to play his favourite position, an out-and-out striker, instead of being a winger.
PSG coach Laurent Blanc typically plays Swedish forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic, 33, in the centre attack position, and puts the Uruguayan, under contract until 2018, as a winger.
Le Parisien noted on Monday that some clubs had already shown interest in signing Cavani, such as Atletico Madrid, Juventus and Manchester United.
In the interview al-Khelaifi confirmed that Ibrahimovic and the Argentine Javier Pastore will also remain on the team’s squad next season.
