New Delhi, April 29 (IANS) The Red Cross has started an online page where people can register the names of those missing in Saturday’s devastating earthquake in Nepal and the survivors can also register themselves, informing their kin and friends that they are alive.
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has activated its tracing mechanism to help people trace their loved ones, according to a statement released here on Wednesday.
The link http://familylinks.icrc.org/nepal-earthquake has names of hundreds of those missing, mainly foreigners. It also has the names and address of the survivors of 7.9 magnitude earthquake that hit Nepal on Saturday, killing over 4,000 people.
For instance, Abhishek Karki, 19, has declared on the site “I am alive”. He has posted on his Twitter handle: “We are safe by the grace of God. Hope all of you are well too. Take good care and be safe.”
The ICRC has asked more and more people to register the names of those missing on the site. It has also asked people to register names of persons who wish to inform others that they are alive.
Hollywood film editor Michelle Page has also announced on the page that she is alive and so has Abhinav Kant Mainali, 21, a resident of Kathmandu.
