Bengaluru, May 2 (IANS) Leading job portal Babajob.com has raised $10 million (Rs.64 crore) from Seek Ltd, an Australian online placement service provider, to fund its expansion plans and fuel growth.

“We will use the fresh capital from second round of funding (series B) to grow our team, build brand, develop mobile apps (applications) and improve telephone services,” the city-based job portal said in a statement here on Saturday.
With innovative services like ‘Missed Call for Jobs’ and ‘RapidHire’, which allows users to register their job profile with a free call and in a local language or through mobile apps and web sites, Babajob facilitates jobs for aspiring workers in the informal sector to access better livelihood opportunities.
In the first round of funding (series A), the portal raised an undisclosed amount from GrayGhost Ventures and Khosla Impact in 2012, with a view to connecting all Indians to better jobs worldwide, especially in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region.
Seek and its affiliate firms are the largest global online job marketplace across Africa, Australia, Bangladesh, Brazil, China, Mexico, New Zealand and southeast Asia.
“Seek is a strong partner with a common vision of using technology to connect as many to better jobs, especially in emerging markets,” Babajob founder chief executive Sean Blagsvedt said in the statement.
Touted to be India’s first web and mobile start-up, Babajob provides a global platform for better job opportunities to aspiring workers comprising delivery staff, office helpers, drivers, cooks, maids and security guards by connecting them to their prospective employers.
“We are impressed with the capabilities of the Babajob management team and look forward to assisting it to achieve its goal of securing jobs for more aspiring Indians,” Seek international corporate development director Ronnie Fink said on the occasion.
Through employer solutions like RapidHire, Babajob drives inbound phone calls from screened candidates to employers in minutes, reducing inefficiencies of hiring in the informal sector.
Babajob has 2.5-million listed job openings and three million job seekers in the country’s largest aspiring labour marketplace.
As a diverse group of companies, Seek helps people live fulfilling and productive working lives through employment, education and volunteer businesses, spanning Asia-Pacific, Africa and South America.
It’s web site receives 365 million visits a month and has three million job opportunities available at any given time.
