Chandigarh, May 2 (IANS) Despite concerns due to the damage to standing crop following erratic weather, rainfall and hailstorms in March and April, Haryana’s wheat procurement is higher than last year, an official said here on Saturday.
“As much as 5,799,958 (57.99 lakh) tonnes of wheat has been procured by state agencies up to May 2, against 5,668,773 (56.68 lakh) tonnes in the same period last year,” a spokesman of the food and supplies department said.
Government agencies have procured over 99.8 percent of the wheat arrival so far.
Sirsa, Karnal and Kaithal districts are leading in wheat procurement.
