New Delhi, May 7 (IANS) State-run Indraprastha Gas Ltd. provided a record 101,285 domestic piped natural gas connections in fiscal 2014-15, the NCR’s piped gas and CNG distributor said on Thursday.
“Carrying forward the vision of the government towards expansion of piped natural gas (PNG) network in the country in a mission mode, IGL provided a record number of 101,285 domestic PNG connections in 2014-15,” IGL said in a statement here.
“It is an unparalleled feat in 16 years of IGL. The number of PNG connections provided by IGL in 2014-15 is the highest amongst all city gas distribution companies in a financial year,” it added.
In 2013-14, the company had added 72,771 connections.
A joint venture between state-run GAIL and Bharat Petroleum Corp and the Delhi government, IGL currently has 560,752 connections.
It serves nearly 800,000 vehicles every day in Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad through a network of over 300 CNG
stations.
Managing director Narendra Kumar said IGL would endeavour to better its record in the current fiscal by covering new colonies and increasing PNG penetration in the already covered colonies for which material and manpower resources are already in place.
