Chandigarh, May 8 (IANS) Announcing a major scheme that will see revamping of 165 towns and cities across the state, the Punjab government on Friday said Rs.5,000 crore would be spent by the end of 2016.

Under the scheme, the state government plans to provide facilities like water supply, sewerage, sewerage treatment plants (STPs), streetlights, roads and parks in all the 165 towns by the end of 2016, a state government spokesman said here.
A meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, was held here on Friday in which it was decided to set up a ‘six-point’ agenda for development of these towns.
The six points (areas) of development would be water supply, sewerage, sewerage treatment plants, streetlights, roads and parks.
Out of these towns, work for water supply, sewerage and STP facility in 90 towns would be completed by December 2015, the spokesman said.
