Chandigarh, May 9 (IANS) With allegations of favouritism in past years in selections for various government posts, the Haryana government on Saturday announced marks for interviews for recruitment would be reduced to ensure that merit is not compromised in selection of candidates.

The Haryana cabinet, which met here on Saturday, approved the reduction of marks for interviews to 12 percent instead of the 25 percent earlier.
“To bring more transparency and fairness in the process of recruitment by Haryana Staff Selection Commission, the Haryana cabinet decided that recruitment should only be based on the written examination followed by interview. It was decided that interview marks weightage will be 12 percent of the total marks and written exam shall be of 88 percent weightage of the total marks,” a state government spokesman said here.
In the past years, allegations of meritorious candidates being ignored or left behind after favourites used to be given more marks in interviews were rampant. Those scoring more marks in the written part had to suffer low marks in interviews.
The Bharatiya Janata Party government led by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had made it clear that all selections in government jobs will be done on merit.
Former chief minister Om Prakash Chautala and 53 others were convicted by a special court in New Delhi in January 2013 for a teachers’ recruitment scam.
