New Delhi, May 13 (IANS) The Lok Sabha was briefly disrupted on Wednesday over the issue of scrapping of the Amethi food park, with the Congress accusing the government of practising “vendetta politics”.
The issue was raised by Leader of Congress in the Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, who alleged that politics of vendetta were being followed by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) by either cancelling or not proceeding ahead with projects cleared by the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) regime.
Following this, there were verbal exchanges between members of the opposition Congress and those on the treasury benches.
Kharge also referred to the statement made by Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur on Tuesday on the reasons for cancellation of the Amethi food park.
Kaur, who was present in the house, tried to reply back contending that her name has been taken by the Congress leader.
Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, however, told her that she was not allowing her to speak.
After this, Congress members gathered near the speaker’s podium which forced her to adjourn the house for 20 minutes.
The issue of the scrapping of the food park was raised by Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi in the house last week. Rahul, who is the MP from Amethi, had also targetted Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the issue.
