Shillong, May 17 (IANS) Striker Cornell Glen scored a superb hat-trick enabled hosts Shillong Lajong FC beat Kalyani Bharat FC 3-1 in and I-League football match here on Sunday.
It was the home team’s second win in three matches.
The win lifted Shillong Lajong FC to the sixth position in the I-League table with 20 points from 17 games while the visitors are at the eighth spot with 18 points from 18 matches.
The match began without any real thrust from both sides. Nonetheless, striker Omar Jarrun put the visitors ahead in the 5th minute, guiding a free-kick into the net.
That goal spurred life back into Lajong as they attacked with purpose but had to wait till the second half to score. They levelled eight minutes into the second session with Glen scored from a delightful lobbed pass.
Glen put his team in the driving seat when he doubled his tally in the 71st minute utilising a pass from midfielder Penn Orji.
The home side were resilient after grabbing the lead and went on to score the third in the 75th minute, Glen completing his hat-trick with a beautiful long range effort.
