Kolkata, June 9 (IANS) A youth was allegedly paraded naked with a brick tied to his private parts in West Bengal’s Malda district following an order of a kangaroo court which pronounced him guilty in a case of theft.
According to police sources, the youth – Tarul Seikh, an employee of a hardware shop – was accused by the shop-owner of stealing Rs.10,000.
The shop owner brought the matter before a kangaroo court.
Despite vehement denials by Seikh, the court – presided over by the village headman – held him guilty on Sunday night and ordered he be taken around the village in the buff with a brick tied to his private parts.
Seikh fell ill and was admitted to the local health centre, and later shifted to the Malda Medical College and Hospital as his condition worsened.
Malda Superintendent of Police Prasun Banerjee said one person has been arrested in this connection.
“There was assault and one person has been arrested. However, we are yet to get any evidence of the kind of torture mentioned in the complaint,” he said.
