Bengaluru, June 10 (IANS) Indian football team’s coach Stephen Constantine on Wednesday confirmed defender Sandesh Jhingan will miss the opening match in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Oman at the Kanteerva Stadium in Bengaluru on Thursday.

The defender was included in the 26-member squad ahead of the fixtures against Oman and Guam but he might miss the second game too.
Constantine said Jhingan needs to undergo a surgery to his shoulder for an injury he sustained during the Indian Super League (ISL) last year. Jhingan played for Kerala Blasters in ISL last year.0
“Jhingan is out of the game (against Oman). He injured his shoulder in the ISL and might need a surgery. It’s quite a big loss for us,” Constantine was quoted as saying by goal.com.
The 21-year-old was one of the brightest players on the pitch for the Blasters and also played an important part in Sporting Clube de Goa’s I-League campaign recently.
