Kolkata, June 20 (IANS) A leopard was killed by villagers on Saturday after it strayed into their locality in West Bengal’s Purulia district and injured three people, a forest department official said.

“The leopard had strayed into a village near Jhalda in Purulia and had entered someone’s yard. It injured three locals including a police officer. An irate mob killed the leopard,” the state’s Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests B. R. Sharma told IANS.
He said the body of the leopard, which was hung from a tree, has been recovered and post mortem is being carried out.
“We do not know the exact method by which the animal was killed. We are trying to ascertain details. Action against the villagers will certainly be taken,” Sharma added.
