Gurgaon, June 26 (IANS) A notorious criminal carrying a bounty of over Rs. one lakh on his head was arrested by the crime branch after a brief encounter here, Gurgaon Police Commissioner Navdeep Singh Virk said here On Friday.
Virk said at a press conference that during checking on Thursday night, dreaded criminal Ayub, 35, and his accomplice Sonu opened fire at the police party.
After a brief shootout, Ayub, a resident of Bharatpur in Rajasthan, was arrested by the crime branch sleuths.
However, Sonu, also from Bharatpur, managed to escaped.
Involved in several criminal and over two hundred cases of vehicle theft, Ayub carried a Rs.one lakh award on his head from the Haryana Police and a Rs. 5,000 reward from the Rajasthan Police.
A country made pistol and cartridges were recovered from his possession.
He was produced in court which sent him to six-day police custody on Friday.
Also on Monday, another dreaded criminal Surender alias Cheeku alias Chairman, 30, a resident of Mohanpur village of Mahendragarh district of Haryana, was arrested by Gurgaon Police, along with his three accomplices.
