Kolkata, July 8 (IANS) The Indian division of Japanese carmaker Nissan on Wednesday said it aims at increasing its overall market share in India to nearly five percent over a period of three-four years.

The company mainly focuses on exports out of its plant in Chennai.
“Our plan is to equally focus on the Indian market as well as boost our exports. In the coming three-four years, we hope to increase our market share in India from less than two percent to nearly five percent,” Arun Malhotra, managing director of Nissan Motor India Pvt told media persons here.
During the previous fiscal year, the company had exported over a lakh cars primarily to the Gulf region, West Europe and Latin America while domestic unit sales stood at 49,000 units.
“One of our global three research and development centres is located in India,” he said.
The other two centres are in Japan and USA. Its plant in Chennai has a capacity to produce four lakh units a year which can be expanded to 4.8 lakh units.
“We are utilising 70 percent of it presently,” he said.
It is also rolling out a spare-parts distribution centre at Manesar in Haryana and plans to do the same in east and west India.
The company is considering introducing a Compact Modular Architecture-based vehicle in March next year.
