Santiago, July 9 (IANS) Chilean football star Arturo Vidal, who crashed his Ferrari under the effects of alcohol and insulted police authorities on June 16, has agreed to donate sports equipment to compensate his infractions.
The attacking Juventus midfielder appeared in San Bernardo’s Court House near Santiago to face the accusations of insulting authorities and drunk driving. Vidal had crashed his car while the Copa America tournament was being held in his country, Xinhua reported on Wednesday.
According to local media, Vidal’s lawyer and the public prosecutor agreed an alternative outlet instead of preventive detention.
The judge explained the alternative outlet was possible because Vidal had no previous convictions.
The public prosecutor ordered a two-year suspension of his driver license. It also ordered the 28-year-old to offer public apologies to the police authorities and the donation of sports equipment.
