Manali, July 14 (IANS) Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday said roads and infrastructure along the international borders of the country would be strengthened.
“A Rs.900-crore plan to develop border areas (all over the country) is not sufficient. In the next four years, our focus will be to develop the roads along the borders. The border roads and infrastructure would be strengthened,” he told reporters here.
Rijiju reached the tourist town on a two-day visit.
Official sources said the minister would visit a prominent centuries-old Buddhist monastery, Key Gompa in Spiti Valley, on Wednesday and later attend an Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) function in Kaurik, where he would halt for the night.
Himachal Pradesh shares a porous border with China and smuggling of rare species of fauna and Chinese goods like blankets and thermos flasks across the border is quite common.
