Jammu, July 16 (IANS) The Indian Army on Thursday foiled an infiltration bid on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district.
A group of four-five terrorists were spotted by troops at 10 a.m. on Thursday along the LoC in Poonch Sector in the Jammu region, a defence statement said.
“On being challenged by alert troops, the terrorists responded with fire and withdrew across the LoC.”
“This was immediately followed by unprovoked firing by Pakistan troops in the sector, targeting Indian forward posts which was suitably retaliated.”
“The intermittent ceasefire violation by Pakistan Army continued till 2.30 p.m.”
On the International Border, in the Ranbir Singh Pura (R.S.Pura) Sector of Jammu district, Pakistan Rangers targeted five Border Security Force (BSF) outposts and civilian areas close to the border, using small arms and mortar shells.
“Four civilians working in the fields close to the International Border were injured in ceasefire violation by Pakistan Rangers in R.S. Pura Sector today,” the defence statement added.
“BSF effectively responded to Pakistan firing in the area,” a source said.
