Hero MotoCorp, the country’s largest two wheeler company has successfully entered the scooter segment and is doing pretty well. Its current lineup of scooters includes the Hero Pleasure, a 100cc scooter and Hero Maestro, an 110cc scooter. Now Hero has come up with two more scooters the Hero Maestro Edge and the Hero Duet. The only problem the company is facing as of now is the huge competition from its rivals, TVS and Honda. Since Honda is simply way beyond reach for many of the companies, Hero is definitely eyeing the second place spot in the race for the biggest scooter company. For this Reason Hero is now ready and setting their eyes on the 20% market share figure for scooters.
Previously with only the Pleasure and Maestro the company had 14% of the market share in the scooter segment, but now with the new launches, Hero is confident that they can make this into 20% of the market share and that will take them that much closer to Honda. Hero’s Territory sales manager Jenner Rajkumar had told the reporters that Hero has always had its scooters in the top 3 best-selling list. So they are confident that with the new launches and the advertising campaign the company has, they will be able to breach the 20% share mark within the first year of the launch of the two new scooters.
Hero surely has a quality product to sell and both the new scooters being developed completely indigenously, it is a great moment of pride for the company as a whole. Hero has the capacity to deliver the products as they have a capacity of 1.3 million units per year with production till date of over 6.5 lakhs plying on the Indian roads.
In the future, the Hero Center of Global Innovation and R&D based in Jaipur, Rajasthan is set to begin operation in 2016 and then Hero will be looking to come up with a lot more new products developed in-house in the new R&D center.
Both the new scooters, the Hero Maestro Edge and Hero Duet are based on the same 110cc platform and the styling of the scooters is pretty neat and they are ready to take on the competition from TVS, Honda, Mahindra and Vespa head on. The Maestro Edge is a facelifted version of the Maestro since it had been quite some time since the scooter’s launch and it was in need for some freshness, while Duet is a completely new scooter built from the ground up. Both the scooters are now available pan India across all dealerships.
