New Delhi, Sep 18 (Inditop.com) The Supreme Court Friday expressed its dissatisfaction over an Uttar Pradesh government reply to its notice seeking explanation as to why contempt of court proceedings should not be launched against the state government for allegedly violating the court’s order on halting construction on memorial sites in Lucknow.
“We are not satisfied (with the Uttar Pradesh chief secretary’s reply),” said a bench of Justice B.N. Agrawal and Justice Aftab Alam.
The bench asserted that the government or even the legislature does not have unfettered rights to misuse public fund for erecting memorials.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati had Thursday denied her government had defied the Supreme Court order on halting all construction activity in the state. The Supreme Court had last week given a six-hour ultimatum to the state government for bringing construction activity at different memorial sites in Lucknow to a halt.
