New Delhi, Sep 22 (Inditop.com) The Election Commission has asked the directors general of police (DGPs) and principal secretaries (home) of Maharashtra and Haryana – where elections are scheduled next month – and also of their adjoining states to make “foolproof arrangements” for ensuring peaceful and free and fair polls”.

The poll panel held a meeting Saturday with the DGPs and home secretaries of Maharashtra, Haryana, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Goa and Daman to review preparations, the Election Commission said in a release here Monday.

“The DGPs and home secretaries were asked to arrange inter-district meetings for sharing intelligence and also for sharing of list of anti-social elements and monitoring their movements,” said the release.

The special measures discussed in the meeting include strong and effective surveillance and patrolling to check “influx of licensed and illicit arms and ammunition, illicit liquor and action against those persons who are known boot-leggers and smugglers of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) etc, anti social elements, known criminals, factionists and communal elements.”

An effective surveillance needs to be mounted on their activities “with immediate effect,” the Election Commission said.

The states were also asked to check “unauthorised vehicles, carrying men, money and other material which may cause disturbance to peace and order” as well as licensed arms shops.
