Mumbai, Oct 13 (Inditop.com) Nearly 20 percent of Maharashtra’s 76 million voters had exercised their franchise till 11 a.m., an election department official said.
While the maximum turnout was reported from semi-urban, semi-rural and rural areas, the urban centres notched a lower turnout in the first four hours of polling that began at 7 a.m.
Despite top industrialists and glamour personalities turning out to vote, the turnout in Mumbai was much lower than the rest of the state at barely 10 percent, the official said.
The election department expects the figures to pick up in the second half of the day.
