Kuala Lumpur, Oct 14 (DPA) Malaysian airport police detained a Philippine national who is seven months pregnant after she was allegedly caught carrying a cocaine-soaked jacket, news reports said Wednesday.

The 24-year-old woman was detained Friday at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport after officers checked her fleece-lined jacket and said they found it was soaked with about 2 kg of liquid cocaine, the Star newspaper said.

The drugs are said to be worth about 460,000 ringgit ($124,324), the report said.

Police said they believe the woman was being used as a drug mule by an international trafficking ring and was transporting the drugs to Vietnam.

State anti-narcotics chief Nordin Kadir said the suspect had entered Malaysia twice before, adding that authorities have detained 13,753 people on suspicions of drug trafficking from January to September.

Malaysia’s tough drug laws prescribe a mandatory death sentence by hanging for those found guilty of trafficking in most types of drugs.
