Kannur (Kerala) Oct 18 (Inditop.com) Kannur district collector V.K. Balakrishnan Saturday sent a report to the chief electoral officer about a possible violation of election guidelines by Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi.

Balakrishnan told Inditop that he submitted a report to the chief electoral officer based on newspaper reports about the honourable minister at a public function pledging to give Rs.500,000 to an educational institution for building sports facility.

“At a press conference he also made reference to providing opportunities to youths. These may amount to violation of poll guidelines,” said Balakrishnan.

Ravi was in Kannur Friday to campaign for the Congress candidate A.P. Abdulla Kutty who is facing the CPI-M leader M.V. Jayarajan in the Nov 7 assembly by-election.

The Congress MP from Kannur K. Sudhakaran had earlier alleged that more than 10,000 voters from the neighbouring constituencies were transferred to the Kannur constituency and the district administration is keeping mum on the issue.

Ravi said if this allegation is true then the district collector should voluntarily step down from the duties of election duties.
