Bhopal, April 15 (Inditop) Two men have been arrested in Bhind district’s Barahed village for their suspected involvement in the murder of Madhya Pradesh assembly member Makhan Singh Jatav, police said Wednesday.
“The police raided the village late Tuesday night once they got the leads in the murder case and arrested Narayan Sharma and Sheru Kaurav. A country-made pistol and and two motorcycles were seized from their possession. The deceased legislator’s gunman Balkishan Dogra and Shivraj have also been taken into custody by the police for interrogations,” Chambal range Inspector-General of Police Arvind Kumar told IANS over the phone.
“The police are interrogating those arrested and the motive behind the murder is yet to be known,” he said.
Makhan Singh’s cremation was conducted Wednesday morning in the presence of a large number of people, including AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh and Madhya Pradesh Congress president Suresh Pachouri.
Makhan Singh was shot at from point blank range late Monday evening by four unidentified people near Chharetav village in Bhind district, around 550 km from here. He received bullet injuries in his head and was rushed to a hospital in Gwalior, where doctors pronounced him dead.
The Congress party in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into Makhan Singh’s murder and called for a shut-down in Bhind and Datia districts.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan described the murder as “unfortunate” and promised stern action against the guilty once police investigations in the case were complete.
