Raipur, Nov 10 (Inditop.com) Seven suspected Maoist rebels were killed in a pitched gunbattle with police in a hamlet within a forest in Chhattisgarh Tuesday. One police constable was injured in the incident.
The gunfight broke out in Telemargu area in Dantewada district of violence-hit Bastar region, some 500 km south of capital Raipur.
“It was a heavily fought half-an-hour gun battle. We managed to gun down seven armed Maoists who were in uniform,” Amresh Mishra, district superintendent of police, Dantewada, told Inditop.
He said police constable Manmohan Sonwani received a gunshot and was rushed to hospital. Police have recovered landmines, detonators and two rifles from the site.
Police say mineral-rich Bastar region, spread over a 40,000 sq km area, is home to at least 10,000 Maoist militants.
