Chandigarh, Nov 11 (Inditop.com) The daughter of an IAS officer, who committed suicide last year, has lodged a complaint of harassment against her husband and in-laws , police said Wednesday.
According to the police, Jasleen, daughter of A.S. Chhatwal, former secretary of science and technology, Punjab, has filed a written complaint with the police. She has accused her in-laws of pressurising her to bring more money and valuables from her father’s house.
“We have booked Jasleen’s husband Jagjit Singh Kohli, his father Daljit Singh and mother Harjit Kaur for harassing her for dowry. We are recording the statements and we have started our investigation,” a police official said.
He added, “She had also filed a separate complaint against the accused with the women’s cell of the Chandigarh police around two-months ago. Both the parties had attended some counselling sessions there but nothing substantial came out of it.”
In her complaint, Jasleen told the police that her husband had also made an objectionable video of her and was threatening to release it on the internet.
Chhatwal committed suicide in October last year at his residence here. In his suicide note, Chhatwal said he was taking the extreme step as he was suffering from depression. He was upset because Jasleen who was his only child had married against his wishes.
Over Rs.10 lakh (Rs. 1 million) was spent on Jasleen’s wedding. Her husband had repeatedly demanded money from Chhatwal, his family members said.
