New Delhi, Nov 11 (Inditop.com) The Delhi High Court Wednesday issued notice to the state government asking why a village in Delhi was without basic amenities like electricity, drinking water and schools and what could be done to improve living conditions there.

A division bench comprising of Chief Justice Ajit Prakash Shah and Justice S. Muralidhar expressed deep concern over the condition of Badarpur Khadar village and said: “It is quite shocking that this village lacks even basic facilities of electricity, water and schools.”

“What have you (government) done so far for the 200 children who are devoid of education?” the bench asked counsel for the Delhi government and asked for a detailed report by Dec 2 on what steps were being taken to improve the living conditions in the village that lies on the northeast edge of the capital.

Social activists filed a public interest petition, highlighting the plight of residents and children living in Badarpur Khadar village and cited how 600-odd families there are living without basic amenities like electricity and drinking water.

“The children of the village have never gone to school because there is no school in the vicinity. All other basic amenities such as electricity, drinking water, dispensaries etc. also are not available in the village. The residents are deprived of all their human and fundamental rights,” said advocate Ashok Agarwal.

“Some boys do go to school but their number is very small as the school is very far away,” said the petition, demanding direction to the agencies to provide basic facilities to the residents of the village.
